8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
I’ve been watching a documentary about people who keep wild animals such as tigers, lions and snakes as pets. In this particular documentary, the people always seem to forget that their “pets” are wild animals and end up being on the menu. Sometimes they survive. Many times they don’t.
It reminds me how easy it is to allow sin into our lives. Many Christians seem to believe that they are immune to certain sins and temptations, but the reality is that it is easy to become complacent around sin and when we believe we are in control we become lulled into a false sense of security.
Before we know it, we have fallen into temptation, we lose our footing, and the enemy moves in for the kill.
No Christian is immune from temptation. Remain in Christ and resist. Don’t allow yourself to be on the devil’s menu.
James 4:7 New International Version (NIV)
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
