Sword Unsheathed

Peace.

One of the most powerful weapons against the devil is a heart that is at peace. All of us experience challenging times. And in those times when our minds are unsettled, we are more vulnerable to attack.

There are some who may believe that spiritual attacks are overblown. But my belief is that they are real and in times of trouble can lead to devastating actions taken out of fear, anger, or insecurity.

I would like you to meditate on a few Scriptures during times of uncertainty in your life. If you are feeling anxious, fearful, angry, insecure, or uncertain-remember that it is the Heavenly Father who has your life in His hands. Fear is not your inheritance.

God understands the human condition. He knows the challenges we face every day.

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

13 No temptation[a] has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted[b] beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, [c] he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.

Because He understands the human condition, He has promised that despite our       frailties, we will still be successful.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The fact that God has your destiny in His hands should give you comfort because it means that even if your success takes a detour, your destination is still assured.

One night I had a dream that I was travelling to an unknown destination. I wanted to go the easy route, but I kept running across detour signs. During the dream, it was revealed that the so-called easy path that I was going to take was booby trapped and would have killed me. When I reached my destination, what appeared to be an angel met me and gave me a book that contained instructions for my next journey.

During the time I had that dream, I was thinking of a weighty decision. I wanted to put it off, because the decision I had to make was going to remove me from my comfort zone. This dream served as a sign to me to proceed and gave me comfort in knowing that even if I am uncertain, God is not.

God also knows that the devil will try to discourage us, but the Heavenly Father has a plan for that too.

Isaiah 54:17 (NIV)

17     no weapon forged against you will prevail,
and you will refute every tongue that accuses you.
This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord,
and this is their vindication from me,”
declares the Lord.

Psalm 91:11 (NIV)

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
    to guard you in all your ways;

He knows that sometimes it is not the devil directly, but the devil through other people.

Proverbs 16:7 (NIV)

7 When the Lord takes pleasure in anyone’s way,

he causes their enemies to make peace with them.

He knows that it is not only people, but sometimes it is worldly systems that can be a challenge.

Isaiah 45:2 (NIV)

2 I will go before you

    and will level the mountains[a];

I will break down gates of bronze

and cut through bars of iron.

There are no circumstances that the Lord cannot overcome on your behalf. But even knowing all of this, it can be challenging to calm an anxious heart.

1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Philippians 4:7 (NIV)

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 54:10 (NIV)

10 Though the mountains be shaken
    and the hills be removed,
yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken
nor my covenant of peace be removed,”
says the Lord, who has compassion on you.

John 16:33 Version (NIV)

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Be at peace my brothers and sisters. Your circumstances are not too difficult for the Heavenly Father.

May the peace of our Lord be with you.
